Nobody Messes With the Union - Eraser Railgun - The EM-1

Sci-Fi guns can be all over the charts when it comes to style, realism, and importance to the story.  The EM-1 railgun in Eraser (1996) was pretty damn badass in the 90s.  It wasn't just the fact that it could shoot through anything, or that the gun was gigantic, but it also had that really cool X-Ray scope on it.  I mean honestly, if you think about it from a soldiers perspective, wouldn't it be a lot easier shooting at a bunch of skeletons?

Well, unfortunately those damn dirty Russian terrorists won't ever get to try them out, because Arnold aka John Kruger, erased them.  Did you really think it would go any other way?  That's ok though because we get to see Arnold dual-wield a pair of EM-1s during one of the main action sequences, so that's cool.

If you know anything about real railguns, you'll know they're huge.  Really huge.  Not even Arnold could hold one to shoot it, huge.  But, it's a real technology that utilizes electromagnets to accelerate a projectile rather than an explosion, such as exploding gunpowder.  Even if we did manage to scale that technology down into a manageable format, like the EM-1, I've got to say that I'd rather have a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range, but we'll save that for another blog post.

Hey, just what ya see pal.
